A Call to Prayer – September 2020

As with much of the rest of the world, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the Freedom to Lead Global Team to think, plan, and pray in ways we never have before. Sometimes it seems that everything has been put “on hold” as the world tries to righten its axis, but when we pull back the curtain we are able to witness God still at work. Over the past five months, FTL reports from the field have both encouraged us and prompted us to continue the hard-yet-rewarding work of cultivating Christ-centered leaders in regions around the world.

When we think of people like you who have supported and prayed for this ministry we are filled with much joy. Knowing that it is God who makes things grow (1 Corinthians 3:6-7), we also recognize that this global ministry is sustained and pushed forward through your prayers.

Therefore, this fall we will be entering a season of prayer and we invite you to join us!

We will be praying over three areas:

  1. Prayer for FTL leaders that continue to be affected by COVID-19 lockdowns in their regions.
  2. Prayer for ongoing FTL ministry opportunities that are currently taking place despite these limitations.
  3. Prayer for the future, imagining and planning for what we hope to see on the other side of this crisis.

In September you will be receiving a prayer calendar in the mail that will invite you to pray over a specific
topic for each day of the month. You can also stay tuned for different prayer events that will take place both online and in local small group gatherings (socially-distanced of course :)). We will give you more details in the coming weeks.

Will you begin praying for the three areas above? Will you ask for the Lord’s favor as we prepare our hearts in this season of prayer this fall?

Thank you for being part of this global prayer movement!

Ongoing Prayer Requests

Orality Institute of Leadership

Please pray for our colleagues in South Asia (India and Nepal) as they develop the “Orality Institute of Leadership” (OIL) this year. This accredited degree program is the first of its kind to offer the entire curriculum using storycentric methods. The Garden Project – FTL’s leadership development program – will serve as the core content. One key leader of this initiative described the goal for their prospective program participants when he wrote, “The participants will be equipped with both knowledge and experience to lead effectively. They will work in mentoring relationships alongside church planters, pastors, missionaries, and leaders of storycentric communities. They will gain unique understanding into sharing their faith, making disciples, planting churches, and developing other leaders.”

Other Initiatives for 2020

Please pray for the FTL team as we discuss and plan for the growing number of requests for FTL’s ministry. We need discernment and faith to expand the ministry’s infrastructure so that FTL can provide The Garden Project to thousands of under-resourced storycentric communicators. Please pray as we discern the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and how that affects FTL ministry around the world. (Currently, most international events for 2020 have been suspended).

Funding and Support Raising

FTL Staff are required to raise their own personal financial support, which includes salary and ministry expenses. Please pray for each member of our team as we continue to make relationships with potential people who want to financially partner with us in this ministry. We also are working hard to raise the funds needed to carry out our ministry operations as well as for our projects throughout Asia and Africa. Please pray for favor with individuals, major donors, and foundations.
