Remember Your Leaders – Bete Musicians, Cote d’Ivoire

May 1, 2017

Since we’re in Cote d’Ivoire this week, we thought we’d bring you music from the Bete musicians there! Description is below the video.

“Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:7-8). Today’s song begins with this scripture and then reminds leaders that the people who impacted them the most were not rich, famous, or people of high position, but rather they were people who built a relationship, listened, and cared about them.

These Bete musicians from Cote D’Ivoire created this song using their own language, song forms, instruments, and melodies. This was their first of many songs they composed and recorded in Abidjan. There is a lot of rhythmic and vocal energy here. The ukulele was recorded with the whole group the first time but was later overdubbed to get a cleaner sound without the drums bleeding into the ukulele mic – hence, the two videos.
